Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as an Associate Painting Inspector on a contract basis. This developmental
role is designed for someone looking to build a career in industrial coatings inspection within a highly skilled maintenance team.
The successful candidate will work closely with experienced blasting and painting teams, learning the trade hands-on, while
shadowing our existing Coating Specialist to gain technical knowledge and practical skills.
Basic Function and Scope
Initially: Provide Painting, High Pressure Water Jetting (HPWJ) and Grit/Slurry Blasting services to the Maintenance Department.
Longer term - Maintain initial duties in addition to:
• Develop into a fully qualified Coating Inspector with NACE Level 2 certification.
• Take responsibility for supervising internal and contractor painting operations to ensure compliance with site specifications.
• Manage coating projects end-to-end, including planning, contractor coordination, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance.
• Act as a technical authority for coatings, HPWJ, and blasting processes, advising on best practices and advancing technologies.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and mentor junior team members in coating standards and safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities
• Be an active member of the painting team in day-to-day operations, gaining an in depth understanding of surface preparation and
coating application processes, in addition to jetting and a variety of other site maintenance tasks.
• Shadow the existing Paint Inspector to learn inspection techniques, standards, and reporting requirements.
• Support quality control activities, including monitoring environmental conditions and surface preparation standards.
• Maintain accurate records of work progress and inspection findings under supervision.
• Organise and coordinate various third-party contractors, ensuring compliance with site standards and schedules.
• Arrange servicing and maintenance of blasting and painting equipment & other plant.
• Generate and manage permits to work for painting activities.
• Review and contribute to Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) for painting and blasting operations.
• Liaise with other departments to ensure smooth execution of coating projects and minimise operational disruptions.
• Assist with MMS (Maintenance Management System) updates for equipment & record keeping.
• Undertake training and development activities as required to progress toward qualification.
• Supervise internal and contractor painting operations to ensure they meet site specification requirements.
• Select, install, and maintain all Painting, HPWJ and Grit/Slurry Blasting equipment on the terminal, working closely with other
members of the Maintenance Team where multi-discipline approaches are required.
Safety & Environmental
• Understand the requirements of work required for a Top Tier COMAH Establishment and the COMAH Safety Report.
• Understand the requirements of the Terminal Environmental Permit and ensure compliance.
• Ensure all painting activities have up-to-date method statements and risk assessments.
• Maintain full awareness of Emergency Response procedures.
• Comply with all site safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.
Development Path
• Work toward achieving NACE Level 2 Coating Inspector Certification (training and support provided).
• Gain practical experience in coating inspection, corrosion control, and industry standards.
• Progression opportunities within the maintenance and integrity team upon successful completion of training.
Requirements
• Strong interest in industrial coatings and corrosion protection.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and adhere to strict safety protocols.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Organisational skills for managing contractors and documentation.
• Willingness to learn and undertake formal training (NACE Level 2).
• Previous experience in industrial or maintenance environments is advantageous but not essential.
• Basic computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Work towards becoming trained and certified in: Abrasive Blast Cleaning, Slurry Blasting, Airless Spraying, Water Jetting Association
Training, MEWP operator certificate, any others training that presents itself as required by the business.
