Design Officer – Capital & Estates (Band 6)

About the Role:
As a Design Officer, you’ll be central to the design, alteration, and enhancement of healthcare facilities. Working collaboratively
across a multidisciplinary team, you’ll develop design schemes, produce technical specifications using AutoCAD, supervise works,
and ensure all projects meet NHS and statutory compliance. This hands-on role sees you liaising with contractors, healthcare
professionals, and internal colleagues to deliver efficient, safe, and high-quality building solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and manage design and alteration projects from initial sketches to completion.
Create and maintain technical documentation and drawings in AutoCAD.
Ensure compliance with NHS, health & safety, and building regulations.
Liaise with internal teams and external contractors to deliver capital and revenue schemes.
Conduct structural and building condition surveys.
Advise on compliance and cost-effectiveness in design-build and Public Finance Initiative (PFI) schemes.
Support project management practices, risk management, and process improvement initiatives.
About You:
Degree (or equivalent experience) in an Estates, Construction, or related discipline.
Member of a relevant professional institution (desirable).
Substantial experience in the construction or estates industry, preferably in healthcare.
Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, building regulations, and project management.
Excellent analytical, IT, and communication skills.
Proven ability to prioritise workload, work collaboratively, and manage multiple projects.
